Dr Ang Sue-May is a MOH-registered specialist dermatologist with over 20 years of medical experience, trained and credentialed in both the United Kingdom and Singapore. She brings the rigour of her NHS consultant background and subspecialist expertise to every consultation at Skincodes.
Dr Ang graduated from King’s College School of Medicine London and holds the MRCP (Member of the Royal College of Physicians, London). She completed rigorous higher specialist training in dermatology at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trusts and University College Hospitals London NHS Trust, earning her Certificate of Completion of Training before returning to Singapore as a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine (FAMS).
Her professional appointments include serving as Substantive Consultant Dermatologist at London North West University Hospitals NHS Trust, where she was Sub-clinical Lead, and as Specialist Consultant at Singapore’s National Skin Centre. She has also served on the Board of Examiners for the MRCP (PACES) examinations for the University of London.
Dr Ang is an active contributor to dermatology literature with various publications in peer-reviewed journals including the British Journal of Dermatology and the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology. Her research interests span acne quality of life, cutaneous manifestations of systemic disease, and dermatological surgery outcomes.
She has presented at international conferences including the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, the American Academy of Dermatology, and the World Congress of Dermatology. As Principal Investigator, she has led UK portfolio studies on acne, skin cancer, and biologic safety in psoriasis.
Dr Ang is actively involved in medical education as an affiliated faculty tutor to both the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (NTU) and the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, and previously served as faculty at Imperial College School of Medicine London.
Dr Ang maintains active membership in the Dermatological Society of Singapore, British Association of Dermatology, American Academy of Dermatology (International Fellow), American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, and the Royal College of Physicians, UK.
Dr Ang practises with a diagnosis-first philosophy. She believes that effective treatment depends entirely on accurate understanding — of the condition, the patient’s skin type, their medical history, and their personal circumstances.
Appointments with Dr Ang are structured to allow adequate time for assessment. She explains diagnoses clearly, outlines the rationale behind her recommendations, and involves each patient in decisions about their care.
Her approach is methodical, unhurried, and grounded in clinical evidence. She welcomes second opinions and complex referrals, and sees patients who simply want to understand their skin better — and to receive care that is considered, honest, and clinically sound.
Dr Ang subspecialised in acne and acne scarring under Professor Tony Chu at the renowned Hammersmith Hospital, London, one of the world’s leading authorities on acne. She has performed over 1,000 complex procedural acne scar revisions combining microneedling, subcision and laser modalities.
She manages acne across all grades of severity, from comedonal acne in younger patients to persistent adult acne. Scarring treatment is always staged, with the right combination of modalities selected based on scar type, depth, and your skin’s healing characteristics.
Rosacea is frequently misdiagnosed or inadequately managed. Dr Ang takes a structured approach to rosacea subtyping and provides long-term management plans that address both symptoms and triggers.
Singapore’s climate – with intense sun exposure, humidity, and frequent transitions between outdoor heat and air-conditioned environments – can be particularly challenging for rosacea-prone skin. Dr Ang integrates skincare and lifestyle guidance into every consultation to support long-term stability.
Pigmentation conditions require careful diagnosis before treatment begins. Dr Ang assesses the depth and pattern of pigmentation to guide appropriate therapy, and counsels patients on the realistic expectations and timelines involved in melasma management.
Melasma is chronic and prone to relapse. Aggressive treatment approaches – including high-energy laser protocols used without appropriate caution – can trigger post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, making the pigmentation considerably worse. Dr Ang prioritises safety and sustainable improvement over rapid but fragile results.
Hair loss has many causes, and the correct diagnosis determines the treatment. Dr Ang conducts thorough assessments for androgenetic alopecia, alopecia areata, telogen effluvium, scarring alopecias, and scalp conditions contributing to hair thinning.
In Singapore, where demanding professional and personal schedules are common, telogen effluvium is a frequently encountered presentation. Dr Ang tailors each treatment plan to the individual’s hair loss type, severity, and goals, with patience and consistency guiding the process.
While serving as Sub-clinical Lead at Ealing Hospital London, Dr Ang spearheaded the daylight Photodynamic Therapy service for skin cancer. She performs full-body skin examinations and dermoscopy-assisted mole checks for patients with a personal or family history of skin cancer, atypical moles, or general screening concerns.
Where surgical intervention is required, she performs excisions and surgical procedures in-clinic. In Asian patients, melanoma more commonly arises on acral sites – the palms, soles, and under the nails – rather than on sun-exposed areas. These locations are easily overlooked during self-examination, making periodic specialist review particularly valuable.
A thorough mole check is more than a visual scan. Dr Ang uses dermoscopy to assess moles and skin lesions with detail that the naked eye cannot provide, and documents findings to support ongoing monitoring.
Patients seek out Dr Ang for a range of reasons: a skin condition that has not responded to prior treatment, a diagnosis they would like confirmed, a lesion that concerns them, or the need for long-term specialist support for a chronic skin condition.
She welcomes second opinions and complex referrals. She also sees patients who simply want to understand their skin better — and to receive care that is considered, honest, and clinically sound.
